CAT (Common Admission Test) - 2013

Brief Information about CAT Exam:

Common Admission Test (CAT) is popular among those candidates who aspire to make their career in the Management of different areas and have desire to work with top leading organizations across the world. 

            The Common Admission Test (CAT) is organized at national level by Indian Institute Of Management (IIM).For updates visit Entrance exam is conducted every year for getting admission into several management programs which are two year complete diploma course running in different IIMs and other top Business schools in India.

When the candidate can apply for CAT 2013 Exam:

1.       The complete information brochure of this management aptitude test will probably be out on, 21 Jul, 2013.

2.       Candidate can register them from 29 Jul, 2013 to 26 September, 2013. The selling of cash voucher will also commence from the 29 July and will last for 24September2013.

3.       CAT will be conducted from 16 October till 11 November 2013.

Who can apply?

There are following eligibility criteria which are set for the candidates to apply for the CAT admission test failing to fulfill will barred them their admission in IIMs and other B-schools.

1.       First of all, All candidate must have their own personal email account and contact number right through the beginning of the applying for the test till the completion of selection process.

2.       The candidate must have Graduation degree in hand with minimum criteria of 50% marks or must have CGPA marks which can be converted into percentage marks as per the rules followed by the University from where candidate is pursuing the bachelor course.

3.       Although the above criteria are kept low i.e. 45% or equivalent CGPA for candidates who belong to Scheduled Tribe (ST), Scheduled Caste (SC) and PWD.
4.       Those who are at the final year or have taken their graduation exam and waiting for the results are allowed for the admission test.

However, those who are under the category of (3) must submit a certificate latest by 30th June, 2013 from the College or university the candidate is belonging. The certificate bears all necessary information about candidate like his or her completion of bachelor’s degree on the date of issue of certificate. 

Mode of Examination

This is an online test and candidates will be provided rough sheets on which they have to do their calculations. 

Sections ask in CAT Exam and duration to complete the test:

There will be major two sections checking candidate’s aptitude and knowledge for language. The difficulty level will be same for each section. A timer will be shown on the screen.

Total time is 2hr 20 min (excluding 15 min tutorial). or 140 minutes to attempt 60 questions.

Data interpretation and Quantitative ability

The test will be started with a tutorial containing detailing about the questions and time; this tutorial will run for 15 minutes after which the candidate has to move on for the test.
The section will come up the screen in sequential manner, i.e. 1st section will be followed by 2nd section. 

Out of 140 minutes, half 70 minutes is allotted for 1st section and remaining half for 2nd   section. It means candidate has to complete the first section comprising 30 questions within 70 minutes with the review of their answers also as once the time complete for first section;  they will shift to the 2nd section& cannot move back.

Topics under different Sections
  • Logical & analytical reasoning: Puzzles, Coding and decoding, Graphs, Statements and assumptions, arguments & Syllogisms type’s questions need to be covered.
  • Verbal Ability: Grammar, Vocabulary and Verbal Reasoning.
  • Data Interpretation: Data sufficiency and Data interpretation type’s questions.
  • Quantitative Ability: Question based on Geometry, Arithmetic and Algebra sections have to cover.
Reservations for candidates:
The seats are reserved for the candidates coming under different categories decided by Government of India.

Other Backward Classes candidates (non-creamy layer) - 27%

Scheduled Caste (SC)-15%

Scheduled Tribe (ST) - 7½%

Physically Challenged-3%

 Necessary disclosure for the candidates

            Those candidates who fall under the category of SC/ST, physically challenged and non-creamy other backwards will have to submit necessary forms and certificates to consider their reservation at the time of admission.
